Dear QISS Families and Friends,
As week 5 of the 2016-2017 academic year draws to a close, your child should be bringing home their Quarter One progress report. Please make sure you spend some time going through this report with your child, praising them for the great efforts they have made in the beginning of the school year. If you find areas for growth, please discuss this with your child and feel free to contact your teacher directly to discuss any concerns you have. Your teacher’s contact information can be located on the Faculty page of the QISS website.
ANNOUNCEMENTS
QISS Mama’s Swim
The QISS swimming pool is now open for all QISS mothers on Mondays between 12pm and 3pm. Please spread the word and encourage all mums to take advantage of this opportunity.
Mid-Autumn Festival
Please be aware that next week is a short week, due to the Mid-Autumn Festival. Students will not come to school on Thursday, September 15th through Sunday, September 18th.
Mid-Autumn Festival has a long, rich history. “In ancient China, emperors followed the rite of offering sacrifices to the sun in spring and to the moon in autumn. Historical books of the Zhou Dynasty had the word “Mid-Autumn”. Later aristocrats and literary figures helped expand the ceremony to common people. They enjoyed the full, bright moon on that day, worshipped it and expressed their thoughts and feelings under it”. In modern times the festival has taken on a new meaning. People will “show their love and longing for a better life…enjoy the full moon and eat moon cakes”. At this time of year, “crops and fruits are all ripe and weather [is] pleasant. On the Mid-Autumn Festival, all family members or friends meet outside, putting food on tables and looking up at the sky while talking about life” Source: China.org.cn.
We hope you have a chance to celebrate this festival with your family next week.
Director’s Family Swimming Program
The QISS swimming pool is still open for free for QISS families and guests on Saturdays between 9am and 12pm. This year the Director’s Family Swimming program has been very successful, with an average of 20-25 individuals joining. Feel free to join tomorrow and take advantage of this great facility.
